The very short sum of my thoughts – I really enjoyed the experience of this book when taking it as a whole. There’s much to unpack from my experience of reading Faridah Àbíké-Íyímídé’s debut YA dark academia thriller “Ace of Spades”. Enough to break the character review limit on here? Quite possibly and for a different reason than you might think.

The comparison of the story being “Gossip Girl” meets “Get Out” is quite accurate, though I would throw in “Pretty Little Liars” as well.ĭo I have a lot of thoughts about this book? Yes, yes I do. I enjoyed the ride, and I think it sets a precursor for strong Black Dark Academia stories. Initial reaction: There are some critiques I would give about unanswered questions that are prominent in this book, but overall – this journey held my attention and didn’t let go.
